Description

Private and romantic casita in a garden and above the lake
We are in a small gated community in west Ajijic. We can walk to several restaurants, a grocery store, a fish store, and the Tuesday morning organic market. The bus stop is less than a 10-minute walk away at the highway. We are up a small hill and have a view of the lake and usually have a breeze. The mountain and a farm are behind us. Our garden blooms year-round. This is a perfect place for couples. A medical/dental concierge service is located just outside the private gate. And this is a great base of operations for house hunting in the area.

The casita is a 1/1 on ground level and our (the main) house is a 2/2.5 on the second level. The roof is a huge mirador with even better views than the lower levels and is accessed by stairs. Modern and open is the general design. The casita has a stove, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker & grinder, and toaster. The bathroom has a shower. There is a fairly private patio and a hammock in the garden. The laundry area is on the casita level in a storage room and can be used by the tenants. There is WiFi internet to watch movies and to do online banking and to use social media. The casita has a TV with DVD player combo and an Amazon Fire Stick. Electricity, phone and WiFi are included. There are ceiling fans as well as a small portable fan. There is a gas wall heater for the rare very chilly nights in December and January. The bed is king size and it is softer than most Mexican mattresses. It was purchased in 2017 and has a synthetic comforter. There is a carport if you rent a car. We chose to go car free as we are young enough to walk and the buses and taxicabs are reliable. Uber is used all over Guadalajara and is preferred to cabs. It is just getting going here in Ajijic but a good way to leave the airport in Guadalajara.

Again, these are short-term rentals. In the high season (December through April) we have a 7-day minimum stay and off-season (May through November) the minimum is 3 days. The casita will be available beginning November 2017. There is weekly housekeeping. It is pet-free and smoke-free. Our fee is $65 USD ($1150 MXN) per night which compares favorably in the area. A $300 USD ($5300 MXN) damage deposit will be required upon arrival and will be refunded on the last day. There is a 35% discount for stays over 28 days.

The owners are newly retired (Merri - physician & Craig - licensed general contractor and home inspector). We have been here since February 2017 and have not looked back. Craig is also a terrific chef! We are early 60's and very agreeable. We chose to be without a car as we are young enough to walk and are still fascinated with the buses and taxicabs. Mexicans are lovely people and we have adopted their slower pace, which was easy for Craig but an effort for Merri. We are from Florida and this year we had the most fantastic July ever. The climate is great year-round from our point of view. It gets "hot" for a few weeks in May and June but that is not the word Floridians would use. There is a second season developing in the summer for "sun birds," those who escape the summer heat and humidity. We have the altitude of Denver with the latitude of Hawaii.

merri and carl's place in Ajijic

My hosts were very cordial and even cooked for me twice. The property is super clean, quiet, comfortable and in walking distance of the town. I would stay again with out a doubt.

Lovely casita with everything you might need - close to amenities - Merri is agreat hostess.

Wonderful hospitality - great location - close to the bus stop - French bakery with excellent croissants and cappuccino and farmer's market - all within walking distance - colorful birds to view - great view of the lake. If I ever come back to Lake Chapala, I would certainly want to stay here again. Thanks for all of your help, Merri!

Fantastic, everything we needed!

We had a wonderful stay in Merri and Craig's casita. It's comfortable, convenient and peaceful. Merri and Craig are wonderful hosts, very warm and friendly. They even lowered their hummingbird feeder so we could see them outside our bedroom window. Be prepared to spend some time watching them whiz around (the hummingbirds, not Merri and Craig - ha!)! You will be very happy you chose this place!
