Awesome View but...

The view here is as advertised - really great. The house is clean and nicely decorated. The walk is strenuous but doable. It is loud - really loud at times but that is Mexico. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. There are dogs all around on the neighboring roofs as is their excrement - but that is Mexico. The reason I only give 4 stars instead of 5 has nothing to do with the above. Reasons are the skylights accumulate moisture and drip down all night long. This is a known issue as their is a pole with a rag attached to wipe it down. We tried leaving windows closed and leaving them open but neither seemed to help. One of the two chairs on the rooftop deck was damaged and a little uncomfortable but usable. The hammock was torn and completely unusable. Kitchen has pots and pans but little else. If you plan to cook a lot of meals it is insufficient (we only cooked breakfast). But for us having a killer view and a relatively safe location was key for us and this provided both. We would stay here again.

Charming, beautifully decorated apartment close to historic center

We stayed for a week at Casa Colibri and had a great time. The apartment is large and decorated very tastefully in the traditional Mexican casa style- vibrant colors and lots of nice ceramics and tiling. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the stunning views from the terrace that is accessible from the living space and also from the rooftop terrace. The apartment is right above the heart of the historic center of town which is very convenient. The alleyways leading up from the center in Guanajuato are steep and the one leading to the apartment is no exception as discussed by previous guests. We didn’t find this a problem but some might. Noise could also be an issue if you are sensitive and are visiting during one of the many fiestas and festivals that are held downtown. We were there for the Independence Day celebrations so there was music well into the night plus the neighborhood has many dogs that can kick off at a moment’s notice. If you are tolerant this can all be part of the fun and charm of being in Mexico. We found the owner very helpful in taking the stress out of the airport transfers. We came into Leon airport late on our arrival day. As soon as you enter the arrivals hall there is a booth where you purchase a ticket for a registered taxi to the Teatro Principal in Guanajuato. We called Gerardo, the agent for the apartment, who met us there and escorted us to the property. Be aware that Gerardo speaks no English. At checkout Gerardo also arranged for a taxi to take us back to the airport which was a nice touch. Overall we were delighted with our experience at Casa Colibri and would stay there again.

Fantastic Time

Over the course of nearly three weeks in Casa Colibri, I had my husband and three teens with me, then my sister, and then my BFF and her teen daughter. Casa Colibri worked perfectly for each group. The house itself is simply beautiful. My interior decorator sister was enamored with how beautiful and practical the design is. And it's comfortable, too. The teens were all able to completely relax and enjoyed the Netflix that's available. We never cooked entire meals but we definitely kept the refrigerator stocked and often ate meals at home of fruit, bread and avocado. Each morning we made coffee and each afternoon or evening, margaritas. The beds are all comfortable, and the rooftop terrace is a welcome retreat. It was very convenient to be able to wash and hang laundry there. The location puts you in proximity to everything you want. It's kind of in between Plaza Embajadoras on one side and Mercado Hildago on the other. There are great things right below in Plaza Baratillo and Jardin de la Union, Plaza de la Paz right after that. The climb is no joke, but I took it like a local and adopted a slow pace, stopping for a rest at different turns. I actually miss the amount of walking I did there now that I'm back in the States. Owner Torsten and caretaker Gerardo are incredibly responsive. All questions were answered and any help that we needed, they provided. I'd love to return to Guanajuato some time, maybe take language class at Escuela Falcon just down the callejon, and I would eagerly stay at Casa Colibri again.
