Nice place in a great location

A lot of thought has gone into the layout. Owners very friendly and welcoming. Location on the edge of Braemar was stunning.

Very good location

We enjoyed our stay in Braemar. The cottage, which is an annex to Morrone House, is beautifully situated and has an enormous garden. Communication with the owner and with the chap who manages the property was clear and helpful. The inside of the house is very nice, the kitchen and bathroom are well equipped and there is plentiful furniture and storage space. I quite enjoyed the selection of books too. Its worth noting the the layout of the bedroom(s) upstairs is quite unusual. There is one proper bedroom at the end of a mezzanine floor, with the remaining beds located on what could be described as a large balcony. For us this was fine, but for two couples it could be a bit awkward. All in all, we enjoyed it and would come again.

Not what we hoped for.

Morrone Cottage has many excellent qualities - the position is great, within an easy walk of the village, and the view out to the hills over the garden is enchanting. Unfortunately we relied on the Owners Direct/HomeAway website description. This clearly states the property has two bedrooms. It does not. Two beds are in a separate room, the other two are on a landing/balcony area which is open to the living area and the occupants of the "real" bedroom have to go through it to reach the rest of the property (including the bathroom/toilet). Obviously there is no privacy possible. For our party of two adult couples, it was really not suitable and spoiled our stay. The sleeping areas are both under the roof with limited headroom and storage space. While on the subject of the website description, it suggests that linen and towels are provided. Only by hovering your mouse over the entry, do you learn you have to request them - for an extra charge. Some items of equipment were not present n the cottage when we arrived. In fairness they were provided very quickly when we raised the issue - but when the rental includes a hefty service charge, I have to ask why everything was not checked before we moved in? The kitchen equipment is fine - the cooker is good (electric hob and double oven) and a serviceable microwave and toaster and double sink (one small) are there. The cooking area is quite cramped, though. There is a shortage of work surfaces for food preparation and little room for food storage unless you use the floor level cupboards in the lounge area - OK for us, but if you have difficulty bending this will cause problems. The fridge is small and inconveniently placed, but there is ample extra fridge (and freezer) space in an adjacent outbuilding. The dining table fitted us four comfortably. The lounge is double height, with a decent TV in the corner. The WiFi signal proved strong, fast and reliable. Parking space is sufficient - you share the drive with Morrone House, and the same drive provides access to the next door property, so considerate parking is needed. I am writing this review from another holiday rental property in Scotland. It is 30% cheaper, has double the space and has doors on each bedroom. Morrone Cottage just doesn't seem like good value, even allowing a premium for the Braemar area.

Morrone Cottage

The Cottage is delightful and Braemar is a quiet village with an excellent restaurant (The Braemar Lodge). The Cottage was clean, the wood burning stove worked well and the WiFi was good. The Cottage sits in a pleasant garden and wass very quiet situated near the end of road. We were surprised to have to pay for the cottage electricity, it is not covered by the rent but it was a reasonable cost. The Cottage has a mezzanine floor with a low roof which didn't suit my 6'2" height, (Banged head), The patio wouldn't lock so we kept valuables in our vehicle, although Braemar appears to be crime free. There is a Coop for food and the fish and chip shop freshly cooks your order. The 'HomeAway' adverts can be confusing. Pictures of Morrone House are used to illustrate Morrone Cottage as well (See picture attached to this review). A very enjoyable break.

Great area to be, cottage okay

We have spent a week at “Morrone Cottage” with our two kids. The highlights of this cottage are definitely the large garden and the location, which allowed for a really lovely view and for starting excursions straightaway. When we arrived we were a bit surprised of the standard, the rooms, the beds and the extra fee for the power, because we had only seen the pictures and information of the “Morrone”-House at the website prior to booking (an experience we seem to share with other guests, judging by a previous review), which apparently really is of a high standard. However, after booking Anna has sent us a few files by email which we just haven´t read thoroughly enough, so we could have known – our fault. All in all we have spent a lovely time at Braemar and do not regret having stayed there.
