This genuine self-catering Irish cottage with its old stone walls and its modern and well thought out interior design meets all the requirements of a carefully planned holiday. Comprising a large living and kitchen area on the ground floor with a modern kitchenette, an elegant and spacious bathroom with a shower and a first floor with a double bedroom and an additional open-scheme seating and sleeping area with a large single bed, it combines comfort and modernity within ancient walls. Garden furniture in the paved patio area outside the cottage is also available to guests.
The cottage is situated in an extensive open garden (3.5 acres) of the highest standard. Guests are always welcome to stroll around, relax and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. The Ballycommane boulder-burial site and a pair of standing stones can also be discovered on the property. These important Bronze Age monuments are only a few paces away from the cottage. The property is located in idyllic and peaceful surroundings in a broad valley amidst the green rolling hills of West Cork. The famous Wild Atlantic Way passes through nearby Durrus, only 2 miles away. There are endless possibilities for outdoor activities, such as walking or touring along the nearby peninsulas of Mizen, Sheep's Head and Beara. There are also fine beaches in the vicinity and the Atlantic Ocean is only a stone's throw away. The nearby towns of Bantry and Skibbereen are also worth visiting, as are many small villages.
The owners also run a small B&B on the property. They are happy to answer any questions their guests may have and will assist with further information, but always respect the privacy of their guests.
Beautiful small stone walled cottage. It is well equipped and it is set on a site with a 5 acre garden. It is adjacent to the owners house on this site. There is a relaxing reading space on the upper floor.
The owner was extremely nice and responsive. Charm exudes from the abode, but it is a bit smallish if you are a bigger than average person. The gardens surrounding the house are quite remarkable and worth exploring. The poor cell phone reception (no service in the house, but is fine at the top of the hill in the side yard) was unfortunate, however. The location was great for hiking in the nearby peninsulas - the Three Castle Head hike was truly special if one can tolerate a hilly trek.. Overall, we were looking for a spot away from the crowds and near some good hiking and small town sight-seeing. We were very satisfied, but would recommend one think twice if body size is either big or tall.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would! We had an excellent experience. Andy and Ingolf were beyond helpful and their knowledge of the area and local activities enriched our visit immeasurably!
