Description
Our home has been tastefully renovated, still retaining a rustic charm with hand made traditional terracotta flooring throughout and accompanying marble. Yet it has all the modern conveniences to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
We have a beautiful roof terrace. On the roof are benches, tables and chairs and stunning views to both the River Mira and the coast.
The beautiful village of Vila Nova de Milfontes is situated on the estuary of the River Mira in the Alentejo Region of Portugal. It is still relatively undiscovered and retains its Portuguese charm, quite different from the more developed areas of the Algarve.
The village is located in one of the most preserved regions of the European coast with beautiful sandy unspoilt beaches, hidden coves and clear waters.
For those of you who like to explore further afield, there is the historic town of Odemira which is a 15 minute drive and is situated on a hill over the River Mira. Or you can discover some of the best Roman ruins in Europe situated in Evora. For those of you who wish to enjoy shopping and sightseeing the beautiful capital city of Lisbon is just 190 kms away. Alternatively, travelling south to the Algarve, the town of Lagos can be reached within one and a half hours. For nature lovers you can travel inland through the protected cork forests to the lakes where if you are very lucky you can spot the very rare black storks.
The coastal strip surrounding Vila Nova De Milfontes boasts impressive beaches and coves such as Almograve, Zambujeira do Mar and Cabo Sardao where storks nest in the cliffs that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.
Our guests are able to enjoy the many restaurants and bars, and sample the delights of Portuguese cuisine and wine. So within a short stroll of the house there are many outdoor cafes and restaurants offering fresh seafood, particularly at the beach restaurants where you can experience the delights of the barbecued sea bream to be accompanied by local Alentejo wines. The village square offers entertainment in the main summer months. The river is good for water sports, kayaking and boat trips. There is also a small ferry service across the estuary to the large sandy beaches of Furnas.
During August, the village is very popular and is visited by both Portuguese and foreign holiday makers, and so becomes a very lively place to enjoy. Please note that reviews are not necessarily in date order, and more recent reviews may be further down the list.

Relaxing stay in a very interesting house and village
The house is very comfortable, well provided and well designed. We soon got used to the spiral staircase up to the rooftop terrace and the views were amazing. We enjoyed patronizing the Centro Commercial around the corner run by Sergio. We swam at the river beaches although the water was freezing!

We had a great week in Vila Nova, staying in this perfect house. It's very well equipped with absolutely everything you would need. The bed room is a delight with it's own little terrace to watch the world go by. The location is really good with lovely views from the roof terrace. There is easy access to several superb beaches. We also enjoyed a trip to Almograve beach. Easy walking into the town to the many bars and restaurants. We'll definitely be back! Many thanks to Karen for all her useful tips and to Mandy for her lovely house.

FABULOUS STAY IN OUR FAVOURITE AREA
Dear Mandy, thank you for a wonderful stay in Casa Do Mira - it is such a gorgeous, well position house, we just loved our 3 week stay and didn't want to leave. After being on the road for so long we loved having a cook up in the well equipped kitchen. We also enjoyed the views from the top balcony and the bedroom balcony where we people watched over a G

Beautifully furnished and great for a couple
We loved the house, it was just right for a couple, with lovely views from the top terrace and first floor balcony. The kitchen was very well equipped, with french doors so that it was always light and airy. The lounge/dining area was snug when it was cold outside and cool on a hot day. The bedroom was lovely, with a very comfortable four poster bed, and the bathrooms were clean with plenty of hot water for showers. The location is great - just a stroll to the beaches, restaurants were a stone throw away and shops, bars and cafes all very close, but it was also amazingly quiet at nighttime. The market was great for fresh fruit and veg, meat, fish and bread. The walks in the surrounding area were fantastic, we used the Rota Vicentina map to do a number of circular routes, plus stretches of the coastal path, all breathtakingly beautiful with wild flowers and birds. Thank you, Mandy, for letting us stay in such a lovely place, and Karen for the warm welcome.
