Hawaiian Monarch (on Niu St) is off of the main strip cross street Kalakaua Avenue. Just across from Ft.DeRussy Park and a block from Hilton Hawaiian Village beachfront. Surrounding Hawaiian Monarch is the Ala Wai Canal which is a popular canoe paddlers waterway and flanked on Kalakaua Ave leads to many shops and eateries!
The space
Hawaiian Monarch is one of the many hotels that was built in the 'Boom' of late 1970's. It has an innovative building management team who has modernized the lighting system, exterior frontage landscaping and security system.
The Penthouse units are separate from the hotel. Penthouses have private owners who self manages their units. PH601 is 1 of 4 units on the very top floor (44th) that offers 3 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms. Also, these 44th floor penthouses have access to the roof top! You will be in one of the most highest vantage points of all of Waikiki.....440feet up in the air....what a view! Ocean, Sunrise, Sunset, Mountains and metro Honolulu panoramic vistas!

We had a great stay in the penthouse
We had a great stay in the penthouse. Our group of six was very comfortable and enjoyed the entire unit including the beautiful views from inside and outside. We enjoyed being closer to Ala Moana and downtown, which made it easier to get out of Waikiki and traverse to other parts of the island. The upstairs bed has been updated from what previous reviews have indicated. The host was responsive and helpful before and during the trip, even bringing us beach towels upon request.

This place was amazing to stay
This place was amazing to stay in for my family and I, the only things we didn't really love was that the WIFI is extremely slow especially in the upstairs area, and there is only a tv in one of the downstairs bedrooms, not every room like the photos advertise. Its a little far from the rest of Waikiki if you don't plan to get a car or use uber, but overall this is an amazing place to stay in, especially if you prefer leisure in your travel experience.

Great location
Great location, amazing views, large space. Could definitely use some updating! Would suggest doing something to make the outside space more inviting, but would stay there again.

This was definitely the best view
We stayed at Rick’s place for our first time visiting Hawaii and the location and view made our experience ten times better. It was in walking distance of almost everything we did which was super convenient! This was definitely the best view any airbnb has to offer and we are so glad we stayed here! Thank you for everything Rick!

Amazing place with incredible views
Amazing place with incredible views. Absolutely one of the best (if not the best) place to stay in Waikiki. Highly recommend it.

This place had a great view
This place had a great view of the city and was within walking distance of multiple beaches. However, there were quite a few downsides that we did not expect. It was very clear this was a party location as the carpets had stains on them and there were previous guests' trash such as beer cans on the deck and confetti in the bedroom. There was also dust everywhere which made me question the cleanliness of the place. Another annoying issue was the standalone AC unit in the top bedroom which unbeknownst to us needed to be emptied multiple times a day and would stop working in the middle of the night. It was frustrating when we came home the one day with our infant and we couldn't put her down for a nap since the room was almost 90 degrees and half the blinds were broken in the room so we couldn't even block out the sun while we tried to get the AC to work again. Lastly, parking was a bit steep. It was $90 for 3 days for just one car. Including this in the nightly price would have made this a better deal. All-in-all it was an okay place to stay in Honolulu given how expensive the area is, however I think there are quite a few improvements that need to be made to make this a better stay for guests.

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION AND VIEWS
BEAUTIFUL LOCATION AND VIEWS! but minor tweets needed. The penthouse itself is beautiful as far as layout and experience! It’s located in a very convenient location. The decor itself is very Hawaiian and made sense in the photographs, but upon arrival there were more Knick knacks and additional items that felt a little excessive. Also the additional small bed in the one bedroom is creepy, it’s more like a hospital bed and not comfortable at all, the carpet is more comfortable than the small bed. The sliding doors in the too room were difficult to open and needed a little WD-40, the shades on the windows were all broken and couldn’t open all the way. Overall our experience was great and we come from humble beginnings so we managed, but the price we spent in 5 days we think it could’ve been a better value. Compared to some of the luxury hotels nearby, this ranked a little low. There were also random fans and useful pieces lying around where the last visitor left it. More attention to detail on the decor and small details of windows and Shaw’s functionality would make this a better stay.
