Caribbean paradise
This was our first trip to Antigua, we've been to many other islands, and we were excited to explore a new island. We had heard of Half Moon Bay from other travelers we've met and were thrilled to find a Villa for rent at a price that we could afford. We rented a car at the airport and after a short trip to town for food and drink we were on our way to Half Moon Bay. The trip was about 30 minutes and along the way my wife took note of the places that we would like to pay a visit during our vacation. We were greeted by the friendly staff of the villa and given the cooks tour. Everything was sweet and simple. As it was getting a bit late we rushed down to the beach to take a short swim after our long journey. The water was just delicious, I thought that we were in heaven. What a stress releif that short swim was. This place was exactly as we were told. On the way back to our villa we stopped for a quick drink at Harry's beach bar. We met Harry and a couple other tourists, had a terrific rum punch and went back up to the villa to get our dinner ready. The staff had the charcoal grill ready to be fired up, so we got it going and cooked up a couple of steaks. After dinner we sat out on the porch, listened to the sounds of the ocean waves, and gazed up at the star filled night sky. There were an incredible array of stars and constellations. We were at the beach early almost every day. Our sunrise walk on the beach really got us in a terrific frame of mind and ready for the days adventures. Lunch was always great at Harry's. Lots of good local food and chatter with the locals. It was very interesting to hear what they thought of their government and ours. We found several excellent restaurants within a 15 minute drive. I must recommend you try their fresh local fish. My wife, being a shopper type, dragged me into town with her to check out the local wares. St. Johns is a busseling little city with everything you are used to having at home. On the way back from town we stopped at Shirley Heights to have dinner and listen to the steel bands. One of the most incredible sunsets I have ever seen. Our trip went by so fast. While we were waiting at the airport we made reservations for two weeks the same time next year. Without hesitation I can highly recommend this beautiful little villa at Half Moon Bay. The staff was great, the villa was always clean and showered with fresh flowers. Just don't try to reserve the 1st two weeks in July, They are ours!

Antigua Highlands-location, location, location
One of the best views of the ocean we have ever seen from our wrap around patio and a uncrowded pristine beach. This is what paradise is all about. We enjoyed our stay immensely and got the most relaxing time of our lives. The home staff were wonderful and created a warmth we certainly embraced. We will be back!

Perfect family vacation
I would like to thanks Alan and his wife for sharing their home with us. The home is about 30 minutes from the airport. We rented a car from Dollar rent a car (great sevice and brand new suv) and it was very easy to drive on the island. There are multiple grocery stores on the way, we decided to stop at the Epicurian in St Johns. You will find everything you need at that store. There are also many banks with instant teller machines around that area. The drive to Antigua Highlands is very nice. Antiguans are very courteous on the road. as you arrive at the villa the view is just amazing. We were welcomed by Elerene, the house keeper. She is so nice and she made ourselves feel at home right away. She came to the home everyday to make sure everything was fine and she even did our laundry. The home is big, very clean, fully equipped, comfortable, lots of space to move around, very high ceiling and so beautiful. They have a front patio with a BBq and chairs and a large table. In the backyard, which is facing the ocean, there is a large deck with a spectacular view of Half Moon Bay. This beach is quiet, clean and the water so clear. You can either enjoy the big waves or move to the extreme corners of the beach where the sand is like powder and the water is calm with no waves. There is a reef barrier making those parts of the beach very popular. There is a restaurant/bar on the beach ran by Smiling Harry. It is good but the service very slow, 45 minutes for 5 hot dogs seems long for me. Most of the meals were spent at the home anyway, it is so convenient. At night, we enjoyed the background noise from the wind and the waves. No loud music or screaming like that you find at different resorts. The internet and the cable TV works great. Our family voted to go back again. We felt safe and at home right away. This is by far one of the best home that I have rented in the carribean.

Best vacation ever!
I recently returned from a week here and already can't wait until I'm able to go back! This villa is truly a piece of paradise. The home and especially the view are much better in person. I was blown away by the location of this villa. It's perfectly situated for an unbelievable view of Half Moon Bay. After a quick stop at the grocery store on our way, we found that the home had everything we needed. Elorene, the housekeeper, keeps this home immaculate and she is so kind! The beach was a quick 2 minute drive down the road and it was nearly empty all of the time. We were able to find shade every day and relax in beach chairs which were wonderful to have. Both of the beach bars were delicious and you will receive friendly, speedy service if you mention where you are staying. There were 4 beach chairs at the home which were great to have access to. This was a first time trip to Antigua for all 4 people. I honestly believe we made the best choice staying here. Every other beach we drove to was crowded and full of vendors. Half Moon Bay is so secluded that on its busiest day of our week there, there were maybe 10 other people on the entire beach. I cannot say enough good words about this villa! I had the best vacation of my life and cannot thank Alan enough.

Great House--With a view to die for
The property was wonderful and our family enjoyed the visit. The house is on the eastern side of the island and provided the privacy we were looking for. Half Moon Bay beach is one of the best beaches on the island. Alan was great in communicating and addressing our needs. He provided great information beforehand with regards to recommendations for car rental, things to do etc which all comes from his experience of visiting Antigua for many many years. Elerene the housekeeper is phenomenal and it was great having her around. Our family plans to be back soon.

Fantastic stay
Our small family had a fantastic week at this property over the 2017 Christmas period. The property isn't trying to be a super-luxurious villa - rather you are staying in an obviously well-loved home showing lots of personal touches. It's well-equipped with a new kitchen. Bedrooms are large and comfortable with plenty of storage. There are 2 bathrooms with showers that are perfectly adequate. The layout is unusual with a connecting storage room between the bathroom of one bedroom and the other bedroom, but it's not an issue. The living area is large and comfortable. There's no A/C but with consistent sea breezes and good ventilation this was never an issue and going to sleep at night with the sound of the breeze and the surf and no A/C noise was rather nice. There's lots of outside space with seating areas all around. The location of the property is stunning. The view of half-moon bay is peerless! It's a 2 minute drive to the beach. You can walk it too, but it's a fair old uphill back to the house! The beach itself is just fabulous and the Beach Bum cafe is good and open every day (even Christmas day). This end of the island is relative quiet, which we loved. You will need a car, in which case you're about 20 minutes drive from the Nelson's dockyard area and a further 20 minutes over Fig Tree drive and onto the west coast. We wouldn't hesitate to go back to this property.

Fantastic Loaction, so relaxing
Can't thank Alan enough for the opportunity for our family to stay in such a wonderful, secluded and relaxing villa. Elerene welcomed us on arrival, and was so helpful throughout the week. We loved exploring the Island (car rental is a must) and spending time down the road at Half Moon Bay. The beach restaurants there were pretty busy, so service was a bit slow and we didn't feel great value for money, but they were very friendly. Highly recommend the Roadhouse for value and great local cuisine. We did the ziplining and Eco boat Tour, both very enjoyable. Explored some other beaches but you can't beat Half Moon Bay! Cooked in the new kitchen a couple of nights and mornings (what a view!) and ate out in English Harbor and a few other spots throughout the island the other nights. We'd love to come back some time!

MOST RELAXING VACATION EVER
The villa was perfect, just what we needed, especially for Jean who recently returned from six months in Antarctica. The view of Half Moon Bay is awesome and we spent time in the morning reading on the veranda overlooking the Bay, then explored the island, then to the beach in the afternoon. It is a lovely white sand beach with beautiful blue Caribbean water and it was never crowded. The days always ended with cocktails on the veranda. Both Jean and I had a wonderful time and we agree it was the most relaxing vacation ever.

Thoroughly recommended.
We are just off to swim on Half Moon Beach on the last day of our stay. We wish it could have been longer. We hope to return. This island is the best I've found in the Caribbean in 40 years.. The property is about a 5-minute drive to the beach. You could walk it, but preferably not at my age.. The view is beautiful. There is a well appointed kitchen with every possible kind of knife. It's a good idea when leaving the airport to stock up at a good supermarket; there are no local ones here (the nearest is a 20-minute drive). Make sure your phone is well charged because you're going to be needing that satnav; old fashioned map reading got us lost. You can get fresh vegetables at Colesome Farmer's Market. And fresh fish landed at Urlings' Fisheries - get there about noon and act brisk because they quickly sell out. An excellent barbecue at the property with an electric igniter. Very comfortable beds. Breezy, mosquitos not an issue. Erlene comes every morning and don't throw your shirt on the floor or she'll wash it and iron it. Thoroughly recommended.
