Beautiful place, awesome views, and peaceful times
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Burke House! When planning our stay, Lusan was very responsive to all questions. She picked us up at the ferry terminal, and arranged for a rental car. Marva was totally appreciated! She made our stay a special experience by shopping for supplies prior to our arrival, cooking excellent meals (while catering to our vegetarian diets), and keeping the house clean. (Thanks, Marva!!) We spent much of our time just relaxing and enjoying the awesomeness of the place. We loved our regular visitors: Carib Grackles, Bananaquits, Antillean Crested Hummingbirds, an iguana, and various lizards. The Bananaquits and the Hummingbirds appreciated a full hummingbird feeder! Burke House (and Moonhole) really is a special place of which we will always have great memories.

Marvelous Experience, Unique Location and Very Special People
We must say that we fell in love with so many things while at the Burke House we can only scratch the surface with the following comments. We found other reviews here and elsewhere on the internet for the Burke House helpful and informative before we left on our vacation, and hope that our words do as well. Why this is such a special place in no particular order - views surpassed by few other places in the world, constant breezes, sailboats plying the blue waters all day, Marva the caring cook was a true resource and a great human being who we will remain friends with forever, the unique architecture and history of Moonhole was fascinating, constant breezes until early morning never allowed us to get too hot, warm ocean waters were gorgeous and clear, friendly people were always willing to help, it was a perfect place for a private and quiet vacation, little need to get to town as Marva provides but we did go one day and shopped a little in some nice shops and had lunch, small town is easily seen in a couple of hours, Iggy the Iguana is a hoot - don't worry he is not aggressive and stays outside and seldom seen Things to be aware of but were never a problem - Burke House is not for someone who needs the amenities of a resort or can't go with the flow with a positive attitude and embrace the adventure, mosquitoes at night are plentiful so pack repellent and coils - although the wind helps a lot as does the netting on the bed we nonetheless brought some anti-bug clothing, no TV despite what the description may indicate, WIFI on the island is often intermittent, location requires some walking up and down on stone and cement steps and paths - we are in our early seventies in reasonable shape and did not find it very difficult, it only takes 5-10 minutes at a slow pace to get to the beach and parking area to meet a taxi, the private beach is a bit rocky and can be a bit rough but we found it beautiful and relaxing in the lounges - there are other beaches on the island are good for swimming, tanning and walking but we never found the need. Many, many thanks to Marva and Doro, and Lusan who unfortunately was away while we were there. We had a wonderful vacation in a very unique piece of paradise that we will cherish the rest of lives, and hope to return.

Burke House, Moon Hole, Bequia...Paradise Found
Burke House is located in the most beautiful corner of the world I have seen. The house is totally open to nature, and allows you to decompress from the “real world”. The sound of the waves crashing on the rocks in the sea below you, 24/7, and beautiful bird song was the soundtrack for our vacation. No tv or radio necessary. Views out to the Atlantic on one side of the house and views back to St. Vincent and the Caribbean Sea on the other side. There are other stone homes in the area, but more than likely you will never see another person in the Moon Hole community. Total privacy. As is the case with any property like this one, mosquitos are a part of the deal. They seemed to be at their worst in the early morning, but the bed does have a mosquito net and as long as you are aware of them ahead of time, you can protect yourself in a variety of ways. Mosquito spray and peppermint soap seemed to help....bug resistant clothing, coils, etc. Certainly not a reason to avoid this property...just a heads up to prepare for the mosquitos. You will be glad you did. The most rewarding part of this property rental was Marva, without a doubt. She is so sweet, and truly an amazing chef. She will make you second guess that ridiculously fancy kitchen you have built at home, because she is pumping out world class food from a basic kitchen with a simple stove. 😀 She also kept the house extremely tidy our entire stay. I loved our conversations every day too. Such an unexpected treat getting to know her. She quickly felt like a part of our family, and it was sad saying goodbye. We love you Marva! Bequia truly is a special place. So rent a car and see as much of the island as you can. But also don’t forget to just take a deep breath, make some coffee, maybe hop in a hammock, and read a great book at Burke House. Few places in the world encourage ‘being present’ quite like this one.
