Description

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps 6, great island cuisine, housekeeping included

With spectacular views, Agnew-Hall House is a natural stone villa perched above the enormous Moonhole rock arch. The house overlooks crystal waters, coral reefs and a soft sand beach. The coral reefs offer great snorkeling and diving. The private Moonhole beach is only steps below.
The Agnew-Hall House has three bedrooms, a large outdoor deck with a hammock and chairs, comfortable living areas, and a fully-equipped kitchen. The Master Bedroom has a king bed and a private bathroom with a fresh-water shower. The Green Bedroom has a queen bed and a private bathroom with a fresh-water shower. The Whale Bedroom has a king bed and a private bathroom with a fresh water shower. The dining area seats 8 and overlooks the Moonhole beach and the Caribbean Sea, with views of many islands of the Grenadines to the south. The outdoor breakfast area overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and the reefs in the Moonhole Bight. The living area includes a writing desk, a bar, and comfortable seating. Trade winds keep the living areas and bedrooms cool as the house sits 80' above sea level. The house is powered by a solar system for lighting and charging small electronic devices. The refrigerator-freezer operates on mains power. Guests have access to the entire 30-acre Moonhole private nature preserve and the many paths and trails that wind through the property. Our staff provides cooking and housekeeping services, which are included in the rent. Their cooking gets rave reviews from our guests. Our commissary is stocked with basic food supplies, including beer, soft drinks and spirits. We also have a limited wine selection and can order other wines for guests from our local vintner. Agnew-Hall is ideal for two couples and can comfortably accommodate six guests. A great house!
Trade winds bathe the upper deck and cool the large living areas and bedrooms. Sounds of the sea surround – from the surge on the Caribbean side and the surf on the beach on the Atlantic side.
Frigate birds sail overhead. Seine boats anchor in the bight. Passing boats are the only traffic one sees. Moonhole is a 35-acre private marine, wildlife and bird sanctuary located at the far western tip of Bequia. There are no roads here, only stone paths.
Tom and Gladdie Johnston founded Moonhole Company in 1964. Working side by side with carpenters and masons from the nearby village of Paget Farm, Tom built the original house beneath the enormous natural arch known far and wide as 'Moonhole.'
Over the years Tom and his crew constructed 16 more houses with stones from the site, native hardwoods, and materials reclaimed from the sea. Trees flourish inside the houses. Flowering tropical plants abound.

In 2000 Tom turned over the preservation of Moonhole to to a conservation trust to preserve Moonhole's natural beauty. As a member of the SVG National Trust and through our private foundation, Moonhole Friends, Inc., we actively support environmental, educational and cultural activities on Bequia

Today the original Moonhole house may only be viewed from the sea There are no public tours. Although the Moonhole compound is private, the company does offer several of its original houses for rent by the week, month or season.

Life at Moonhole: Enjoy the peace and quiet of Moonhole. No roads, no traffic, only quiet paths wind through our compound. Relax and let our friendly staff care for you.. Swim in turquoise waters, dive for conchs and sand dollars, watch birds soar, sunbathe, swing in a hammock, enjoy the beach or hike the challenging Fishermen's Path to the tip of the island. Bring your mask and snorkel to the Bight, a gigantic aquarium filled with tropical fish and brilliant coral reefs. Or just relax and enjoy a good read. Fish from the shore or a deep-sea fishing boat for 'the big ones.' Sail on the schooner Friendship Rose or charter a private sailboat to explore the Tobago Cays. Take an inter-island ferry to visit Mustique, St. Vincent, Canouan, Union or other islands of the Grenadines. Explore the many other beautiful beaches, bays and coves around Bequia. Spend an evening on the town in Port Elizabeth where restaurants and nightlife abound. Spot a shooting star, gaze at the moon, and bask in the trade winds on Bequia, the 'island of the clouds.'

Getting here, getting around, and services: Most international travelers arrive via Barbados or St. Lucia and then take a short flight to Bequia on SVG Air. Others fly to St. Vincent on LIAT, and then take an inter-island ferry to Bequia. Our Managing Director, Winifred Kydd, will have a taxi meet you at the airport or ferry. A member of our staff will greet you at the Moonhole entrance and help you with your luggage.

We recommend that guests use the services of local taxi drivers. If you choose to rent a vehicle, we provide parking outside the Moonhole gate.

Housekeeping services are included in your rental rate. Our housekeepers cook and clean 6 days per week. They will provision the house and cook all your meals, unless you tell them you really want to fend for yourself. (But don't pass up their great cooking!) Our house staff arrive at 8:30 a.m. and go off duty at 7:30 p.m. If guests desire staff services after that time we charge $10 per staff hour for overtime.

We bring in most of our fresh produce from the 'mainland' - as we call the lush island of St. Vincent six miles to the north. Lobster and conch are available in season and we usually have fresh fish daily. We recommend that guests consider leaving gratuities for the staff with our Managing Director at the Moonhole Office. Most guests give gratuities in a range of 10% to 20% of the rent.

Pack light, bring light clothing, a couple of bathing suits and your sandals! Take it easy at Moonhole !

Perfect Honeymoon!

A unique place to spend your vacation. Definetely not for everyone as there's no hot water, electricity, internet, some windows/doors and other things you may be accustomed in your life. Us, we felt lucky and honored being there. Everyone we met was just so nice! It's a place to live in harmony with nature, take your time to admire incredibly beautiful views, listen to the waves and simply relax. Extremely romantic, with attention paid to every detail, it was a perfect choice for our honeymoon!
