Perfect Location with Gorgeous Beach!

My husband and I had the most wonderful time at Davilla! The house is just as described though the pictures don't do it justice. It is very bright and clean on the interior. There aren't any pictures of the bathrooms posted - they are modern with large tiled, walk-in showers. The air conditioners worked very well though we only would turn them on to sleep for the most part. The house seems well insulated as it would stay cool for hours even with the AC off. The king sized bed was so comfortable with just the right thickness of blankets for the climate. The house was well-stocked with towels and kitchen supplies. All that being said, the most wonderful part of this home is the beach right outside. The view from the huge patio was perfect for drinking your morning cup of coffee. The Atlantic Ocean breeze kept the bugs away - we never had an issue. My husband spent hours snorkeling around the reefs just out from shore. Bring your own gear or you can rent/buy it at this little shop in Governor's Harbor by the Shell gas station. He also used the kayak a few times. Besides the reefs, there are plenty of sandy areas that are fun for catching waves. We wore water shoes though as there can be the occasional hidden rock/coral. I spent hours just sitting in the soft sand and staring out over the water. The little cabana is a good place to find shade, and the beach lounge chairs are comfortable. We took daily walks over a mile out both north and south from the house. We only saw people on 2 occasions. It was really like having a private beach. Eleuthera is a beautiful island, and the central location of Davilla was great. It was nice to be there in only 5 minutes after leaving the airport. Governor's Harbor was our favorite town that we visited, and it is only 10 minutes or so from Davilla. It is recommended that you drink bottled water - the most economic thing is to buy a 5 gallon jug of water so don't forget to bring the empty one from the house to the grocery store to exchange for a full one (cost maybe $6 vs $16 for the pack of bottled water we bought). There are 2 grocery stores there with adequate supplies. There is a very nice, well-stocked grocery store in Rock Sound but probably not worth the nearly 1 hour drive if you aren't staying for a prolonged visit. We actually ended up eating out quite a bit though it isn't cheap. We recommend Pammie's for lunch and enjoyed Tippy's and 1648 for dinner. We have already booked a return visit to Davilla in December!

Great place to stay

Snorkeling is the best here, out front or to right, at the point. Davilla is the place to stay!

Beautiful Home - Beautiful Location

Overall this is one of the best vacations we have been on. The house was beautiful, stocked with everything that we needed for our stay. The property and home are well cared for and everything worked wonderfully. The location couldn't have been better either. We went all over the island and the best beach was the one directly in front of the house. We spent many afternoons just floating in the surf and enjoying the beach.

Jim's hammock is the world's most beautiful place

We spent 5 days at Da Villa and loved it. The views from the huge terrace and from the hammock are unquestionably among the best of all of Eleuthera's homes: the view isn't simply open and "boring" but you get the shade, sound, and beauty of so many well-kept palm trees framing the water, it's breathtaking. On most days we had 20 mph winds and above (up to 25mph), and the swaying and rustling trees make for a spectacular display. Nary a bug that bit, it was too windy. You can swim on this gorgeous but sheltered-feeling beach in any weather - the waves never get too high and you just walk right in without water shoes (and without a bathing suit, if you are so inclined!). Bring water shoes to climb across rocks and then you can walk on this beach for miles. It was too windy to snorkel but bring your gear - the reefs are right there. Arthur the caretaker is a lovely and interesting person who patiently answered the many questions I had about the people and history of this island and from whom we had rented a car. Jim, the owner, was staying above the garage at the other end of the property during our stay (btw, the front yard is gorgeous as well, a large grove full of beautiful species of palm trees giving lots of dappled shade.) Jim's a riot, looks like a well-groomed pirate, and is super friendly, helpful, and very fun to talk to. The house is sturdy, large, bright, super clean, and very functional with a huge corner sofa and a large kitchen equipped with all the cooking gear you need and sharp knives. (Could use another reading lamp and maybe a small desk!) We never ate out because I always wanted to be in my hammock in the late afternoons and evenings. We had brought in some frozen meat and cheese in our suitcase, and on our way down from North Eleuthera airport we bought $150 worth of produce at Hearty Mow Farm right on Queen's Highway in Rainbow Bay and were more or less set for the week. The owner, LeFleur?, is a wonderful guy who served us (instant) coffee and his wife's coconut cake when we stopped to say goodbye on our way back to the airport. Island Farm is closer to Da Villa and very nice, too. Le Deck a few steps down the beach across the rocks looked fun but was always closed. Bring ground coffee! We'll be back.

A spacious beach retreat for family and friends

After one of the worst Canadian winters, a week at Da Villa has given us all fresh energy. Grandchildren, adults and our potcake dog found healing sun and warmth in this lovely home. There was lots of room for everyone to expand and still find private places away from the action. With the new VAT tax in Eleuthera, prices have risen since last year, so be sure to bring paper towels, toilet paper, coffee, cheese and other sealed food your family might need. Mr Nixon, the Eleuthera caretaker took great care of us and definitely went the extra mile to restore the internet. The beach is lovely. Some of us were graced with an up close personal visit with dolphins. It does not get better than that. Highly recommended.

Great week at Da Villa

My wife and I had a fun week at Da Villa. The view and beach were incredible. We enjoyed long walks on the beach and cooking at home. House was well stocked and everything worked. Would recommend to friends.

Paradise Found

My husband and I recently stayed in Da Villa for 10 days, and had a wonderful stay. The house was beautiful and the patio out overlooking the Atlantic was the best spot, and had the best view on the island. The best swimming and snorkeling was right down our steps to the sea. We actually had a dolphin swim close to us for a good while one morning, and we sat on patio and watch a turtle swim by. Da Vila is in s great location located centrally on island, and will definitely stay there again if we return.

Just what we wanted

Great central location on the island. Amazing view and beach. Comfortable and spacious. Glad we picked Da Villa.

Simply awesome

House was everything we hoped it would be. Secluded location on a gorgeous beach. Incredible view of the beach, ocean and sunrise from the patio. House was very clean, spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Both bedrooms are very large and have great views. Split plan would be perfect for 2 couples, and was also in our case - traveling with an adult child. We have rented many beach houses all over the world - this was one of our favorites. Serene setting with gorgeous views. Highly recommend.

Great view with a beach!

Great house on the water with wonderful views. The home was very neat and clean for our arrival. The check in process was very simple and well explained. Arthur the property manager was wonderful and always picked up his phone when we called with questions or issues around the house. However the "property description" was quite misleading. The "garage studio apartment" in the listing stated "Available to current guests only". As "current guests" we had two last min travelers jump onto our trip, totaling 7 people. Based off the listing, this would not have been an issue considering access to the garage studio apartment". The way the listing was spelled out It should have simply been an "extra charge of $200 per person per week over 5 people"..... you would think, "okay, no issue at all" but that was not the truth. The apartment above the garage turned out to be an extra charge of $150.00 per night "cash only" demanded by the owner Jimmy. This was NOT listed in the add and was aggressively presented to me by the owner over the phone our first morning there. It was not a friendly conversation Jimmy had with me. I was quite disappointed with the attitude and demand he displayed on the phone. After explaining my confusion I then requested to send him the money through the Homeaway/VRBO app but he declined that option saying, he didn't want to do that because "they charge fees". As you can see this was quite a shady move pulled by the owner...demanding cash ($150.00 PER NIGHT!!!), *under the table*!!! This ended up costing us an extra $650.00 when it should have only been an extra "$200 per person per night over 5 people" as stated. I was later told by Jimmy that he was going to have "the lady" change the add to avoid a conflict like this in the future but it has still not been corrected. So, if you plan on using the "garage studio apartment" make it clear what your actual cost's for the stay will be. Again the house was great and so was the island!!!
