Great Family Getaway!

Perfect place to host a family get together. We had 9 adults and 9 children and never felt crowded. The fire pit and the grounds were large and great for entertainment. Bring your croquet set or bocci balls because there is plenty of room. The lake is awesome with little traffic! We rented a pontoon and sometimes it felt like we had the whole lake to ourselves. It is very close to Sleeping Bear Dunes and all the Lake Michigan Beaches. Jeff (our host) was very gracious and helpful. Although there is no air conditioning, we never missed it and that was during 90+ days.

Fun-filled Cabin by the Lake

The cabin, loft, and bunk house were just what we needed for our Graduation Party! We were celebrating the graduation of "our boy" from Interlochen Arts Academy (IAA). The girls (teens/twenty-somethings) stayed in the loft, the boys (teen/twenty-something) slept in the front room, the "benefactors" (older ladies) slept upstairs, and our auntie who underwent knee surgery a few weeks prior stayed in the bunk house with her husband, daughter, and grandson (no stairs, easier access). Since everyone got up at different times and had different plans - kayaking, paddleboating, sunbathing, swimming, going to Sleeping Bear Dunes, touring local sites, and various IAA events - the bathrooms worked out great. Every evening after our excursions, we came back together for dinner, then we'd make s'mores by the fire pit and watch beautiful sunsets. Jeff (owner) even brought over more towels when the kids used them as beach towels. Fantastic weekend!

our week vacation week of June 23 2012

we have a family group of 18 that stayed in Platte Lake lodge and it was wonderful. Property was in great shape and it supported all of our activities including French Darts and Bocce Ball. The firepits were great at night. we brought with us a speed boat, pontoon boat and 2 wave runners that were kept right at water's edge. great sunsets and millions of stars at night. We had a great time, probably the best in 30 years of coming to Platte Lake. Thanks Jeff.

Great Labor Day Getaway

My wife and I visited the Platte Lake Lodge this Labor day, with our twin infant boys and small dog. The owner was very accomodating, and made our stay very pleasant. The cottage was clean, and would be a great esacape for families as there are so many different activities to take in. We bbq'd a few times, and headed into town which was very close by (you have a few choices in either direction). We made time, taking turns, to use the owners Kayak's and ventured out into the lake. The cottage has a firm sandy bottom, and the water was crystal clear. Thanks Jeff for a great visit, and we will be back in touch when the boys get older.

Clean, spacious, on the lake, owner on premises!

Wonderful time up north with friends. Clean and comfortable accommodations on Big Platte Lake. Played golf at Arcardia Bluffs and other courses in the area. I will be back next year.

Lake Life and Golf!

This beautiful lakeside setting is spacious, relaxing and fun-filled. The convenient location to golf, great lakes (Great Lakes!) and natural beauty is tremendous. We played lots of golf at spectacular courses - best in the state - within 30 minutes of the lodge. Please reserve me a month next time!

Magical Michigan

My husband & I spent our summers as kids "Up North" and we wanted to begin that tradition with our daughter as well. There is something magical about the Northwest corner of the state. We spent the week just after the 4th of July weekend at the Platte Lake Lodge & Jeff was a fantastic host. The Cabin & Amenities: Jeff has done a fantastic job with the property and developed three separate living structures. We referred to them as the main house , the loft and the guest house. Our daughter had a blast sleeping in each of them! The main house is nicely decorated and appointed and has amazing views of the lake from the "Florida Room" and each of the bedrooms. The kitchen and bathrooms have recently been remodeled and are very nice. We made good use of the Circulon pots and pans! ( Nice touch Jeff!). The loft is nicely decorated and sits above the huge three car garage. It can easily .. and very comfortably sleep 6 people. It also has a huge TV with cable which our daughter loved. I think she actually slept on a different bed each night. What we referred to as the "guest house" looked like it may have been the original garage and has been beautifully renovated into what may be the nicest sleeping quarters on the property. Plenty of windows, great airflow, great wood flooring and nicely decorated. It greatly exceeded our expectations. And yup ... our daughter slept here too! The Outdoor Space: My mother came up to Platte Lake Lodge for a couple days as well and we made great use of the pristine outdoor space. Frome the stone fire pit to the outdoor furniture , volleyball court, beach area and dock, this was where we spent most of our time. In the evenings it was sunsets & wine over a roaring fire and of course s'mores & hobo pies. I think we were outside around the campfire every night till well past midnight. It was magical. The Lake: Before moving out of Michigan 15 years ago, I spent a lot of time in this area of Michigan. I have been on Crystal & Glen lakes, but never Big Platte Lake ... I was missing out. The lake is perfectly sized and has a variety of habitats. There is a nature preserve on the Southeast side of the lake where the water is calm, clear and maybe 4-5 feet deep . It was a perfect place to go birding, turtle catching and just generally take in nature. I'd write more but VRBO won't let me lol! Bottom line .. we would absolutely recommend!

Perfect Rental for Extended Families

The owner Jeff was easy to work with and very accommodating. The property was clean and ready for our week by the time we arrived. Jeff met us there himself and provided a full tour of the property and everything that was available for our use. We vacationed with our children and their families which included three little ones ages 5 and under. The property contained everything we had hoped for that was included in Jeff's description. We made use of the kayaks, standing paddle board, volleyball court and fire pit. We added on the pontoon rental after we arrived so we could enjoy some fishing from the middle of the lake, along with leisurely boating around the water. On one rainy day, we spent time shooting pool on the billiards table in the garage. The small sandy area at the waterfront was the perfect size for our small boys who loved to play in the sand for hours at a time. The lake water was clean and refreshing. Water shoes are a plus for swimming and kayaking. While there was no air conditioning, we had plenty of windows which we'd open to provide a nice cross breeze (we went the end of June so the weather was cooler). On the one occasion that we needed to reach the owner, he responded to us right away. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to vacation at this rental again in the future.

Wonderful old-fashioned lake vacation spot

We had a wonderful week on Platte Lake. The property is well-described, the photos do it justice: this is a charming house right on a beautiful, serene lake, with a beautiful and usable yard (volleyball, croquet). The house was just right: well-maintained and clean and comfortable, but not fancy or fussy. We had a fire every night in the fire pit, which is surrounded by Adirondack furniture, and served as the 'living room' - adults and teenagers were quite happy to settle in here. The owner was very helpful and solicitous, and made sure we had everything we needed. The garage loft, with 3 queen beds, was perfect for the 4 teenagers. This is a peaceful, out of the way locale for a relaxing vacation: Big Platte Lake was wonderful to swim and kayak in, and the location - 7 miles from one of the best beaches in the world (Platte River) on Lake Michigan - is perfect. 5 miles into Beulah/Benzonia for groceries, and a great location for a family wanting to be near, but not in, TC, or for families leaving or picking up campers from Interlochen. I hope we can arrange to return next year! Highly recommended.

Wonderful Family Vacation

Our family stayed at the Platte Lake Lodge for a week's vacation to celebrate several Milestone Birthdays. We had 3 generations and 4 families staying at the lodge and everyone enjoyed the stay with all of the extra space the house offered. No one felt "on top" of anyone else. The location is perfect, the amenities were great and Jeff was a superb host. I would highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a laid back, fun vacation destination.
