The Newcomb Tavern was built in 1693. This elegant Colonial Inn, known as the Newcomb Tavern, was the lodging establishment for dignitaries during the Revolutionary War located on picturesque Shawme Pond with a working Grist Mill. It has all of the modern amenities of a professional grade gourmet kitchen, exquisitely designed with the chef in mind. The house is a showcase of the 17th century and one of the most photographed homes on Cape Cod and New England.Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, built in 1693 as an Inn.

Always feel free to call me with any questions, no matter how insignificant the question may seem.

There is an elegantly appointed dining room with seating for 12 that overlooks the Lake with a Venetian chandelier, six fireplaces, Grand piano, Venetian chandeliers throughout the house, three large living rooms, and an Old English pub/bar that opens out on to one of the lush terraces with a fountain, The Secret Garden. With another Terrace and Pergola entered from the French Doors from the very large Kitchen. This Terrace/Patio with a big Table and Chairs overlooks the lush gardens and manicured lawns perfect for outdoor games.

There are 3 very large Living Rooms with fireplaces, a Baby Grand Piano and rooms to congregate or separate for gatherings. Each room has its' own character and decorated with a specific motif in mind. There are antiques from Early America and from around the World, all fitting into the history of the home as Peter Newcomb traveled the World in search of whales for lighting oil.

There are 6 fireplaces and views of the Town with the Church Steeple from the 1800's and another Church Steeple from the 1700's. The views from every room are wonderful.

Every amenity is thought of and placed there for your perfect vacation. Having rented so many places with my large family I have been able to decide what makes the perfect vacation spot for those who want to come to Cape Cod. It is my joy to have you remember this vacation as your favorite. There are indoor and outdoor games for everyone as I love the idea of children staying at the Newcomb Tavern thus being able to experience life in Colonial America and see so many historical places and items right there in the house.

Availability maintained off website. Please contact Owner for current available dates! I have lived here all of my adult life and I think of it as Heaven on Earth.

The very large kitchen has granite countertops with room for the family to cook together. The cupboards are filled with spices and every necessary culinary item to make this one of the most memorable experiences for your reunion. The 7 bedrooms are spacious and elegantly furnished with period pieces. Pictures can be sent for the interested parties. There are 5 beautifully decorated bathrooms, libraries, and many other exquisite accompaniments including an entertainment room with a big screen TV and 4 other TVs. All the linens are provided with the idea of providing a perfect experience to be remembered forever.

The Historic Newcomb Tavern built in1693 is surrounded by expansive and beautifully landscaped lush gardens with two outdoor terraces and a fountain and one with a beautiful pergola overlooking the expansive backyard and gardens.. The house is lavishly furnished with period antiques and is located in the heart of the historic district, next to a 1600's Grist Mill, on a lake and approximately one mile from the ocean. Walk down the tree lined scenic street to Heritage Museum and Gardens, walk across the street around the pond to the Thornton Burgess Museum or the famous Historic Hoxie House built in 1637 or over to the Dunbar Tea Room or just over to the Sandwich Glass Museum. You can envision yourself in the middle of a Historic New England Village with beauty all around.

A short walk to Heritage Museum and Gardens, across the street from the Sandwich Glass Museum and steps away from several restaurants and fine shops. This stately 1693 Colonial Inn is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. It is one of the most photographed homes on Cape Cod because of its location on Shawme Pond with the Grist Mill, the Dunbar Tea Room, the First Church with its grand Steeple and more importantly its historical place in the Revolutionary War.

My family had the pleasure of being guests in the Newcomb Tavern, Sandwich. When first entering the home you have a feeling of welcome and warmth. Entering each room captures your interest and you find yourself wanting to explore the next room. Being able to move in and experience the beauty and history of this Historic home is a privilege. My family were all sad at the end of our stay and we all look forward to making this a yearly occurence. Thank you once again Yvonne for your care of this wonderful home and for allowing us to be your guests. Jeannie LaPoint, Naples, Florida

The house and location ar...

The house and location are even better than the pictures show. It was a perfect place for our family reunion. The owner provided us with everything we needed to feel at home and comfortable. The featherbed was so luxurious. In the evenings, we enjoyed duets on the piano from those in our group who played. Easy walk into town and to the beaches. Do stay in this marvelous and wonderfully preserved house if you can!

A unique setting for a wonderful family summer get-together

We stayed for a week in the summer with our children and grandchildren -- 13 in all. The home itself is spectacular -- full of antiques and gorgeous furnishings. We all really felt the magic and history of the place, but not in a stuffy way. Croquet on the lawn; reading children's books aloud under the spreading branches of a wonderful tree in the yard; our 1 1/2 year-old greeting "George" every morning as she addressed his bust in the kitchen; playing the grand piano; walks around Shawme Pond -- these are only a few of the memories that are now part of our family's shared history. Yvonne is more than an owner; she is one of those rare generous souls who makes sure everything is more than perfect for her guests and becomes a family friend.

Casual Elegance

Charming, comfortable, spacious, picturesque, etc, etc! Filled this lovely Tavern with a bakers dozen , plenty of room. Upper cape with easy access to cape, Boston, Newport. We will return for another enchanted adventure.

Beautiful Family Home

We recently had our wedding at this beautiful home with our family and close friends. Everyone that stayed with us fell in love with this house. And it was the perfect setting for an intimate small wedding, we could not have asked for more. The owner of the home made us feel like we were family and pulled out all the stops for us. We would definitely recommend this rental property for anyone looking for a beautiful home to enjoy with their family and friends. The pictures displayed online are true in nature and seeing is believing, very spacious, clean and well maintained. There is a pond across the way with beautiful swans, ducks and you can fish in it. Walk thru town and see the Glass Museum, plenty of sights to see.

A great house for our family reunion!

We stayed at the Newcomb Tavern for our family reunion (spanning 3 generations) and it was a wonderful place to spend our week together. The house is a true gem and has both the character of an old house and the conveniences of a modern house. Yvonne was great to work with, very friendly, and very accomodating in making sure our stay was nothing less than we expected. I would definitely recommend the Newcomb Tavern!

Great Week at Newcomb Tavern

Rented with a large group of old friends. House has great atmosphere, several distinctive rooms for sitting, talking, dining. Great location, convenient to many Cape Cod activities. Owner was helpful, attentive to our needs and questions. Great value for the price.

Beautiful, Elegant and Magical

We recently spent a week at the Newcomb Tavern celebrating our wedding with friends and family. The house could not be lovelier! Each room is special, decorated with magnificent artwork, glass chandeliers (omg!), and comfy bedding and furniture. Although, the house is a historical treasure and an antique paradise, it is also welcoming, warm and friendly. A perfect place for a family reunion with rooms to be together or go off for some quiet time. The piano in the living room was an extra bonus for our musical family. The outside gardens are so gorgeous and calling out for a family game of croquet. We loved the barbecue and fire pit and gorged ourselves on s'mores! The kitchen was stocked with everything a cook could need and we made use of it all (feeding 14 people). Additionally, the laundry room was conveniently located and stocked with detergents, et al. Small touches, like beach towels, were constant reminders of how welcoming this house is to its guests! The location is perfect, walk to town, grist mill, and beach and of course, down the street from the magnificent Heritage Museum and Gardens (where we had our wedding). I can not say enough wonderful things about this house and its management and delightful owner. I am sure I have made friends for life there and look forward to another visit. The Newcomb Tavern is paradise on the Cape!!!

Great rental in the perfect small town

My family stayed in the Newcomb Tavern for the 4th of July week and we couldn't say more positive things about our stay and booking experience. The home owner and property managers were a pleasure to work with throughout the rental process and we couldn't have asked for a more ideal rental for our week in the Cape. The house is magnificent- loaded with history and personality, the Newcomb Tavern is an experience all in itself. The rooms are well decorated, with extremely comfortable bedding, furniture, and unique details. The house was clean and well maintained for a property built in the late 1600's, with small reminders of it's history placed throughout the house. The back yard and fire pit were great areas to spend mornings and afternoons, and the house's central location in Sandwich made it easy for walking around town. My whole family was thankful for this find, and we all highly recommend this rental!

Newcomb Tavern 1693

We had a wonderful family reunion with 13 of us staying in the house quite comfortably. It is fascinating wandering through, taking in the rooms and their decorations. There is so much history mixed in with the present-day amenities. The large, modern kitchen was put to good use for our meals. The weather favored us so that we skipped the dining room in favor of eating at the big round table outside the kitchen door. The firepit was also regularly used at night. There are good restaurants and things to see within walking distance. We also enjoyed our trip to Woods Hole for a tour of the Oceanographic Institute and the Aquarium there. Our hostess Yvonne was incredibly attentive and caring throughout our stay. Thanks again to her for making it so special.

Family retreat was FANTASTIC!!!!!

All things were good but bathing and bathroon experience could have been better. I also understand the age of facility. Yvonne was a special addition adding to the "age old" experience.

Family Reunion Cape Cod

Wow! We had such a wonderful time in this amazing home! It was full of history, beautifully decorated and had lots of perfect spaces for our family to gather. Yvonne was helpful and welcoming every step of the way. Great location too!

Rare opportunity to go back in time

We rented this beautiful, historic home for a family get together over Labor Day weekend 2019. This home provides the quintessential New England experience from the location (near a historic grist mill and glass museum) to the home’s garden, and a hidden staircase. There are historic references and surprises in every nook and cranny in this large, comfortable home. If there was a piece of kitchen equipment, tool, toiletry, or comfort we needed, we found it. Yvonne was exceptionally accommodating, generous, and warm. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this rental opportunity to any discerning family looking for a large, unique Cape Cod retreat.
