We could not have been happier with this discovery. This unit has everything and is in the perfect location for the perfect Mayan vacation. Nothing is better than the pool out your door, the sand beyond that and then the Caribbean only foot steps away. You can wake up and walk out to it all, no going up and down stairs and around the building stuff to get to the beach. The unit is spacious, fully equipped and incredible comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful, and who doesn't love complete daily maid service. I highly recommend this unit their is no way anyone would be disappointed.

This was my first time vacationing in the Yucatan. A few years ago I went on a cruise to Mexico on the Pacific side and this was so much better! The water was so clear and the sand so white it was beautiful. The condo we stayed in was amazing it was right on the beach, just a few steps from the ocean and the pool. The first night we got there we even saw a nest of sea turtles hatching, a one in a lifetime experience! The condo was very clean and it was nice having the filtered water system in the condo so I didn't have to worry about getting sick (like I did last time I was in Mexico). We were there for 9 days and wanted to stay more. I look forward to going back again.

This was our first ever vacation to Mexico, and Akumal is unbelievable. Our stay at Playa Caribe exceeded all expectations. This condo is amazing, you step right out the sliding door and you are at the pool on the beach. The condo is clean, bright and inviting, we felt as if it was our home for the 10 days we spent there. Having there own water purification system is such a piece of mind for everything from drinking, cooking and showing. The maid service is excellent, everything was so clean and I can be a bit of a neat freak. We are already planning a return trip with the kids. One word to describe Akumal and this condo, OUTSTANDING!

A special place

I usually do not write reviews however this time I felt I really wanted to share. The owners and their condo far exceeded any expectations my family and I had. This was our 2nd time in Mexico and will never stay anywhere else if possible..The location was perfect for all our activities. Having a pool a couple feet away and steps to the ocean to snorkel was extravagant. The people are friendly and warm and the condo itself luxurious, homey and comfortable all at the same time. Joyce (the owner) went out of her way to send us info.,suggestions and helpful hints. This condo is for everyone looking to have a relaxing, comfortable, safe, clean and special vacation to add to their memories.

Heaven in Mexico

Akumal and the Playa Caribe condo was the perfect way to ring in the new year. Our family of four immediately felt at home with everything the condo had in it. It was so clean! There was tons of space inside and out. Having the pool right in front of the condo gave us the feeling that it was our own private pool. Most days the kids had it to themselves. The views were to die for. We saw turtles poking their heads up all day. The beach at Akumal Bay was great for snorkling and seeing the huge sea turtles. We went twice. Yal Ku was one of our favorites and is just a five minute drive to do the best family snorling ever. The staff at Playa Caribe was so helpful and friendly. Daily maid service was a bonus. Augustin in the office gave us all the tips of where to go. Joyce (the owner) was incredible to work with. Her emails, photos and info sheets made the trip smooth. We have stayed in other condos in other cities in Mexico and this has by far been our favortie holiday. We will be back.

Perfect vacation spot

My wife and I stayed for 7 days and it was way too short. Loved having a ground floor unit to walk right out to beach any time we wanted. Rocky shore, but that's because of the amazing reef feet away from the shore. I'm an avid snorkeler so this was exactly why I chose this place. If you want a sand entry akumal is right around the corner too and a must see anyway. Akumal pueblo not far away and great dining options in either real Mexican restaurants or more expensive and wonderful options on HMB or Akumal bay area. Perfect location to relax and a great base for exploring. I didn't want the PDC or Cancun experience again and I got exactly what I wanted. Been disappointed with snorkeling in previous trips but not this one. 1st rental condo and won't be the last. Loved the conveniences of a condo and great staff too. Got woken up to see turtles nesting one night! Will definitely rent this unit again especially since playa caribe is one of the few I inquired about (and I believe the only one actually) that has ac throughout not just in bedrooms. Wouldn't be an issue mosf days with ocean breeze but a couple of days if was very nice to have. As my wife put it, best trip ever.

The Perfect Choice for Mexico

We had the most wonderful time in the Yucatan and a big part of it was staying in this incredible condo. We are a family of four and it was just perfect. With 2 very large bedrooms and 2 bathooms, living room, dining and kitchen area we were set. The place is so clean, the staff is friendly (and they clean every day), the water is filtered so you always have purified water to drink, and the owner, Joyce, goes above and beyond in giving you all the information you need for your stay. One of the advantages of the condo is being on the ground floor. We are used to staying on a second story, but being able to step out from the living room to the patio and have the pool and beach right there was such a plus (I didn’t realize how great and convenient this was.) Other wonderful reasons to stay there: The beach, water, and snorkeling is terrfic. We got to see sea turtles hatch at night (you can ask staff to knock on the door if they spot hatching that night.) La Buena Vida restaurant, a quick skip down the beach, was our favorite place to eat and have drinks (when we weren’t dining at our condo.) Akumal (for other great snorkeling) is a quick drive or even better - rent bikes from the office at the condo. We biked in the rain and it was the best ride ever! Tulum is about 20 minutes away. A great town to get groceries, see the ruins, and enjoy the sparkling beach (not a snorkeling beach because of the waves but one of the most gorgeous beaches I’ve seen.) We did many excursions but there was nothing better than coming back to our home away from home and relaxing by the pool or just spending the day at Playa Caribe and enjoying the beautiful beach and water. Thank you Joyce for such an amazing time at your wonderful condo.

Fabulous place to stay in Akumal

I'm sorry it took me so long to write a review about our trip to Akumal in December, but I wanted to put on the record that my family and I had a wonderful week in Akumal and a big part of what made the trip so special was Joyce's apartment. From the very first email exchange we had with Joyce, to our last minute at the apartment, everything was fabulous. The apartment is very spacious and well kept, and it made all the difference to have drinking water, especially as we were travelling with a small child. Also, the daily cleaning service was extremely appreciated, especially after a day of bringing sand inside the apartment. It was so relaxing waking up to the sound of the ocean and being able to enjoy the beach (note that the ocean bed was very rocky and we had to wear water shoes to fully go into the water, but it was super special to have a reef right in front of the building) and our "private" pool (as it was literally outside our door and we were able to have it to ourselves for most of the week). The only "issue" we had is that we couldn't connect to the wifi upon our arrival and we were told that the strong winds have moved the box, however, upon notifying the building manager they immediately started working on it and the problem was fixed smoothly. Akumal is a very special place: very close to all the action but secluded enough to retain the peacefulness otherwise lacking in other parts of the Mayan Riviera. We loved having breakfasts at the Turtle Bay cafe (and buying freshly made bread and pastries to take to the apartment with us) and dinner at La Buena Vida. We also managed to take a couple of great yoga classes through Las Casitas. Also, snorkeling at Yal Ku Lagoon was a fabulous experience (and only a 3 minute drive or 15+ walk away). All in all we had a fabulous time and we can't wait to go back to Akumal. When we do, we will certainly try to stay at Joyce's place again.

Definitely Most Relaxing Vacation Ever

We absolutely loved it here ! If you don't like crowds, this is the perfect place for you. I loved waking up and being able to swim laps in the pool and then take a walk on the beach. We also enjoyed the snorkeling right off the beach. We saw a really nice variety of fish and our favorite was a Cuttlefish. La Buena Vida is very close and we enjoyed their happy hour. I found the margaritas excellent there and if you like calamari it was the absolute best I have ever tasted ! We had a rental car which gave us a lot of freedom. We travelled to a few beaches close by and finally got to visit Tulum public beach...WOW. It's only about 15 mins away by car. We really enjoyed the seafood at Lol-Ha restaurant in Akumal , enjoyed everything we had at La Buena Vida and there is a place across from the condo called La 3 Acapulquenas and they can cook up delicious meals for you to take back to your condo for great prices. We had Teresa cook us up a lobster tail meal that we brought home and enjoyed with candlelight and a glass of wine. The view from the condo was beautiful, with the pool and the sea beyond that. I have really nice pictures of the full moon over the water. Beautiful ! We loved the convenience of being ground level and enjoying a coffee just on the patio. The design of the bathroom shower was perfect for either a shower or a nice relaxing time in the tub. The layout of this condo is nothing short of perfect ! We will be back. Joyce was so informative and we took a lot of the advice she gave. Hilda the maid did an excellent job of keeping the condo clean and creating something new almost everyday out of the towels. We have been to Mexico 5 times before this year and this was our best stay yet !

We loved this Condo and Akumal

We spent 2 weeks at this condo in November and it is absolutely wonderful. It is spacious, comfortable, and has everything you could possibly need. Besides that, it is in the perfect location on Half Moon Bay. Although there is plenty to see and do in the Akumal area, we spent most days on the beach in front of the condo. The views are beautiful and we loved being on the ground floor with quick and easy access to the pool and beach. Joyce and Rod make sure everything in the condo is in good condition, it is thoughtfully decorated and well cared for, especially by Hilda the housekeeper. She was terrific and the place was super clean. Joyce and Rod are very easy to work with and gave us wonderful information to help with our stay. We decided to give it a go without a car and it worked out just fine. We walked all over Akumal and took the collectivo to Tulum and Playa del Carmen. We shopped for groceries at the markets and cooked in several times (the kitchen is well equipped!) including grilling the fish we caught on a trip out of Akumal Bay. Like most other reviewers, we enjoyed happy hour, lunch and dinner at La Buena Vida but make sure to try some of the other restaurants. Our favorite was Que Onda; delicious pasta and fresh fish and we also liked La Lunita. We went across the street to Las 3 Acapulquenas several times to bring breakfast, lunch and dinner home to our patio; it was great. One of the highlights of our vacation was meeting the other wonderful guests staying at Playa Caribe. Whether we were meeting for drinks on the patio, happy hour at La Buena Vida, or sharing the boat on our fishing trip, it was all super fun. If you are looking for a condo on Half Moon Bay, you will love this one!

Best vacation spot ever

My husband and our two best friends stayed in Joyce's place for a pre-holiday vacation and absolutely fell in love. We all quite literally gasped when we walked in on the first day, the view is so spectacular. The apartment is open and airy and was a wonderful place to spend a week. We had many adventures including a trip to Chichen Itza, snorkeling in a cenote and dinner in a cenote restaurant in Playa del Carmen but we all agreed that our favorite activity was just spending time on the beach and in the pool. We went snorkeling every day in Half Moon Bay and got to see lots of sea turtles. Our favorite thing to do was to go and enjoy lunch, dinner or drinks at the Buena Vida restaurant just down the beach. It was a charming place with great service and really excellent food and drinks. The people who worked at Playa Caribe were also wonderful and helped us out whenever we needed it. My husband and I almost never go back to the same place twice because we love to explore new places but we can't wait to return to Playa Caribe!

Great Family Vacation!

We had a fabulous time at Playa Caribe and I feel badly that it's taken me so long to write a review. The location is wonderful. The ocean is so beautiful, the pool is lovely and the area is quiet and peaceful. It's calm, but not remote enough to be inconvenient. We walked to several restaurants and the lagoon. We walked to town at least twice as well. Other attractions (zip line park and several cenotes) were a short drive away. The property manager was friendly and helpful, the unit was clean and well maintained. All in all a great vacation. The owners were easy to contact. In fact, my husband left his jacket in Mexico and the owners arranged to have it mailed back to us. Very kind! I recommend this property without hesitation and hope to return someday soon. You will love it!

WONDERFUL VACATION HOME!

We had a great family vacation in Unit #3! We were right on the beach and only steps from the pool. It's a great location for young children, young and older couples, and families alike. The area is quiet, romantic and peaceful. Full of nature! We left a snow storm behind, and could not have been happier! We walked to restaurants and the lagoon, and took taxis to further destinations. You don't need a car. There are 2 great bedrooms, each with it's own bath, and there is an outdoor shower and foot-wash after coming in from the beach. The kitchen is great for cooking family meals, and the unit was very clean. We loved waking up to the sounds and sights of the beautiful ocean each morning! We especially enjoyed sitting outside any time of day or night, swimming and going for shore walks. There were magnificent starry nights. It was a joy to be so close to nature! You will love it here! We can't wait to return!

Our new favorite place

My family and I stayed in unit #3 over the Easter holiday and we still talk about the wonderful time spent there. The condo is well furnished and is so convenient in many ways. One, you can drink the tap water without trepidation, two you are located on the ground floor aka pool level so there are no additional steps to walk up or down, three the reef off the beach is some of the best snorkeling you will find in the Caribbean, four you are in walking distance to two of the better restaurants in Akumal and five you can pedal your rental bikes into the village in a few minutes; we had so much fun using the flashlight as our headlight on our return to the condo each night!!! Ever run out of beer or tequila ? No problem here, the market is a 1 minute walk down the street. Our host, Joyce was very quick in communicating and gives you a very helpful cheat sheet package before arrival. The Augustin and his staff could not be any nicer and Hilda kept our place spotless daily. Don't forget to bring water shoes if you plan on going in the water since its very rocky and some are sharp. Perfect family vacation

My family and I had a terrific time in Akumal at this lovely condo at Playa Caribe. Not only was the condo lovely and perfect for our family, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. The condo has two great-sized bedrooms and bathrooms and was comfortable for three adults and two children. Our four-year-old absolutely loved the pool, so much so that we could hardly get him out of it each evening. The area is quiet and beautiful, but just a short golf cart ride or walk to so much activity including cute stores, restaurants and excursions! Each day, we did one excursion in the morning and then spent the afternoon near the condo at the pool, beach or Buena Vida, the local beach restaurant near the condo. The lagoon was beautiful, but swimming with the turtles in Akumal Bay was definitely the highlight. A close second was the guided tour of the Cenote Santa Cruz. This was a vacation we will always remember!

Love this place!

Such a perfect place for our 5 day stay. The house had everything we wanted, was beautiful, and you can not beat being able to just walk out to the pool and beach. The staff (Augustine and Hilda) were so friendly and helpful. It was a windy week with the sargassum affecting the bay, but we just walked a little north to snorkel. Fab location near little markets and restaurants. Super clean and maintained area. Wish we could have stayed longer! We’ll be back!
