Even closer to Casa Barra Tortuga is a little village called La Punta that is a favorite of cool, low key bohemian surfers with a natural food shop, and plenty of beachfront restaurants and cafes, and it even has a great Thai restaurant with live music during the season.

Location History: The town of Puerto Escondido was established in 1928 as a port for shipping coffee, although the area has been inhabited by indigenous populations for centuries. In the 1960 s it was connected to other coastal towns by Highway 200. Tourists began to discover the town and surfers found its beaches. Its importance as a port diminished as coffee shipments began going by truck instead of boat. The port does continue to support commercial fishing activity

Exactly what we were looking for!!!

This beach house was amazing and beautiful and perfect. We stayed here July 20-27 2019, 6 of us in total. The beds were very comfy, the hammocks were so relaxing, the place was very clean and inviting. The house keeper and her daughter and husband were very attentive to our needs, came and cleaned the house and the pool every day. Very sweet people, and they brought us fresh handmade tortillas every morning!!!!! So, so good! They also helped us with setting up activities and gave us tips on where to go. Our vacation was unforgettable and this house (along with the helpers) were very much a part of that magic!

The must beautiful beach house I have ever stayed in!

Absolutely lives up to the photos. Pool, beach, everthing was perfect. Kitchen has everything you need. You can literally release baby turtles at sunset a few hundred meters down the beach. I will definitely stay here again

Gorgeous home right on the beach

My family of 4 stayed at this wonderful home for 6 days in mid-February. It is located 15-20 minutes south/east of Puerto Escondido, so a car is essential for staying here. The home is relatively new with 2 spacious bedrooms looking out over the infinity pool toward the Pacific Ocean, which is just steps away. The kitchen is great, with bottled water available and great appliances. The pool is wonderful both day and night. From the house, you can walk "north" to La Punta where the waves crash onto the rocks. You can also walk south just 5 minutes to find the turtle hatchery. For just a couple of dollars, our kids were given several little baby turtles to release once the sun was down and most of the birds were chased away. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful home, right next to the ocean, then this is your place. The owners arranged for a local man with good English skills to meet us when we arrived and show us the way to the home. It wasn't strictly necessary (the home is not too hard to find), but it was great to have a guide for that first trip. Also, a family of 3 lives on the property and handles pool maintenance and the daily cleaning of the home. They were also wonderful and allowed our kids to play with their two little puppies. It was a terrific vacation, and we would love to return next year. The owners were very responsive to questions, and had a few helpful suggestions for activities in Puerto Escondido. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us!
