* * * * APOLOGIES, THIS PROPERTY IS NO LONGER BEING RENTED * * * *

The Feathered Nest is a tranquil island hideaway on Peaks Island, Maine. It has a hot tub on the deck, abundant bird life, and a view of Diamond Passage. The beautiful, long Centennial Beach is just around the block. It's an 8-minute walk from the village with stores, cafe, and landing. The ferry goes almost hourly to/from Portland's quaint Old Port with its shops and wold-class restaurants.

The space

The dcor is comfy, not too rustic, not too precious. Furnishings are mostly sturdy antiques and durable oriental rugs.

The living room with wood stove is cozy. Sofa is mattress quality.

The newly renovated L-shaped kitchen is well-equipped (we love to cook!) including a convection oven ...plus, there's a Weber grill on the porch. Also a dishwasher. Who wants to wash dishes on vacation?! The passageway has a second, Mexican ceramic sink and mahogany counter, convenient for serving the dining room.

The upstairs master bedroom is spacious, with 4 big windows, great views, and a comfortable antique queen size bed with high-quality mattress. There is space for a pack 'n' play or inflatable bed. The washer and dryer are in this area.

The smaller, cheerful guest bedroom adjoins (caution, the walls are thin) and gets morning light. It has an antique brass double bed with high-quality mattress.

The sumptuous upstairs bathroom has a double shower to die for! Like the kitchen backsplash, it's made of beautiful hand-painted Talavera tile from Mexico (Allison's own design). And, for those chilly mornings, the tiled floor has built-in heat!

Stairs to the 2nd floor are a bit steep. There's a convenient half bath on the main floor.

Guest access

The entire cottage will be at your disposal. Before your arrival I will send information about how to access the key.

The location was great

Everything was just as described and expected. Allison's responses to our pre-trip questions were helpful and quick. The location was great for us: easy walk from the ferry, short walk to the water, and across the street from a playground which was great for our kids. We had a great weekend, thanks!

Allison was a very accommodating host.

Allison was a very accommodating host. She was extremely responsive via the Airbnb email utility. She has fully documented nearly everything you need to know. We liked the way the home was situated looking towards the sea, particularly while in the hot tub. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our dinners & breakfasts, including some standard condiments. The bathrooms were decent, including the dual-headed shower in the full one upstairs. The home itself could use some TLC, but it is quite charming. The chairs and sofas weren't very comfortable, although I was able to arrange some pillows on the living room sofa which made it a bit more palatable to relax. The beds weren't very comfortable; one was too soft, and one was too hard. Overall, we enjoyed our four days on Peak's Island. And we appreciated Allison's responsiveness. Thank you for being such a good host to us, Allison!

Allison is a great host.

Peaks Island is a very special place- beautiful, quiet, friendly and safe, with a rural feel, but just a 20 min ferry ride to a cool city. The feathered nest was the perfect place to experience it for the first time. The house is very close to the ferry, grocery store, eateries and bike rental. It's also charming, cozy, comfortable, clean, has a well stocked, kitchen, comfortable beds, a lovely deck, and beautiful views. We found it well suited for a stay with our almost 1 year old. Allison is a great host.

The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and other amenities.

This year round Cottage is a well located and comfortable place two kickback and enjoy the slow Island life. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and other amenities. The main bedroom upstairs is quite large and has Windows overlooking the backyard with a view of the Harbor through the trees. It was great sleeping and very quiet in that room for my wife and I. The highlight of the cottage, IMHO was the hot tub on the deck - loved it! My only issue was to have discovered that guests are responsible for washing and folding laundry before departure. This wasn't something that was explained in the airbnb description or online guest manual. It was only made known in the owner's instructions that were sent to us about a week before arrival. If I had known beforehand I might have reconsidered my reservation. It may not seem like a big thing but if check out time is 11 a.m. you need to spend a couple of prime morning hours to wash, dry and fold your bed sheets (and towels) - forget about going out for breakfast and coffee that last morning, unless you want to set an early alarm. Not something I had planned on. But we enjoyed all else about our stay on this island.

All the cozy perfection of a Maine cottage, in a great location on Peaks

It's an absolute must for my wife and I to stay at The Feathered Nest, at least once a year. All the cozy perfection of a Maine cottage, in a great location on Peaks. Hot tub is a huge plus! We'll be back soon.

If you are looking for a gem of a home in a wonderful location the feathered nest is the place.

If you are looking for a gem of a home in a wonderful location the feathered nest is the place. With comfy beds and a well appointed kitchen for making meals you can't go wrong. The beach is a short walk away with calm waters and treasures to be found. Allison is a gracious host who will make your trip one to remember.

We'll be back in more temperate conditions!

We arrived in Portland on the tail end of the February nor'easter. We had a wonderful time adventuring around the island in the snow! The fireplace and hot tub were amazing considering the weather. We loved waking up to views of the bay and walking to the other side of the island for ocean views. We'll be back in more temperate conditions!

We greatly enjoyed our stay.

We greatly enjoyed our stay. The description is accurate. It is located well. The property is well care for and there are many personal touches that make this a wonderful place to stay.

The cottage was amazing!!!

The cottage was amazing!!! Everything you could possibly need was there. Had the pleasure of enjoying the island in a full winter storm !! Being the off season, there wasn't much going on. But it was exactly what we were looking for. Still plenty to do at a slow, peaceful pace. The residence of the island were helpful, kind, lots of fun, and a joy to be with. The ferry schedule made it convenient to hop to Portland and back if you need to. Highly recommend staying here !!!

It was the perfect, cozy, quiet, private winter getaway!

We stayed at the Nest for a few days after NYE. It was the perfect, cozy, quiet, private winter getaway! The directions & logistics of the ferry were super easy- we drove over with all our groceries, I think it was $45 for us plus the vehicle. It runs almost every hour, even in the winter! There is a cute market on the island with everything you could possibly need, but its definitely "island prices". Finding the house was very simple, straightforward. The house itself is perfectly outfitted with necessities, kitchen supplies, robes for the hottub, Netflix on the roku, firewood out front, etc etc. We spent a lovely, chilly few nights staring into the woodstove, running for the jacuzzi in the snow & wandering the quaint beach roads. It was just perfectly rustic, charming & removed, yet enormously convenient & easy to access right from Portland!! We will definitely return. Thank you!
