Description
4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Bathrooms, near Town Center, Sleeps 8
The recently renovated Cross R Ranch house is a historic 1929 Craftsman Bungalow located in colorful Kanab Utah.
The home was on Kanab's 2011 Historic home tour.
The house is located two blocks from downtown Kanab on nine tenths of an acre. The home was built in 1929 by Brigham Adelbert Riggs Jr. a member of one of the first pioneer families in the area. A Rancher, as well as a stonemason by trade, he molded each brick from the red clay found along the Kanab Creek.
The house includes four bedrooms (three with queens, and one with two twins), and a bath, a fully equipped kitchen, dining room (table will expand to accommodate 12) and living room on the main floor and the second level has a bedroom suite with a queen bed, sitting area with futon and new bath. Guests can relax on the front porch or on the patio area where they can grill and enjoy the mountain views.
Starting in the 1920's to the 1990's, hundreds of movies and TV series were filmed in the Kanab area.
Director William Wellman allegedly named Kanab Little Hollywood because of the willingness of local residents to appear in his films. Many Riggs family members had that opportunity. On a quiet night guests can settle in and enjoy watching some of the films on DVD.
Kanab is a perfect base from which to explore Southern Utah. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary are just a few of the many scenic areas to visit. A special time to visit Kanab is during Western Legends Roundup usually the last weekend in August.
For large groups, consider renting the Muriel's Place( HomeAway 352107 ) in addition to the Cross R Ranch house. They are on the same block, one house apart.

Great location, great home
My wife, daughter, her husband and I enjoyed a 3 night stay in late September. The home was charming and comfortable. We chose it because it was a good base to do Zion NP and Bryce Canyon NP (hint, get up and go early to avoid the crowds). We would have stayed another night and done the North Rim of the Grand Canyon but we got lucky and picked up a cabin there for one night. It would have been a bit of a drive but was possible (and necessary since rooms at the North Rim are hard to come by). The location is great close to grocery shopping and restaurants. We had a great meal at the new French restaurant Vermillion 45 around the corner - very good but be prepared for a bill to match. Our kids tried the vegan pizzeria in town and loved it. The home itself was clean, comfortable and all in great working order. The amenities were very good. We spent some time under the big tree on the patio in a light rain and didn't get wet. It is an historic Craftsman style house. We'd love to come back and spend some more time someday and explore more around Kanab itself.

Cozy home with scenic views
This was a very comfortable home and we had everything we needed. There is a lot of space and everyone loved it. The location was great for driving to Zion and Bryce Canyon. We loved being in a small, quiet town. It is right down the street from grocery stores and restaurants. We would come back here again for sure!

Good base location for seeing parks and other sites
This home was in a great location and accommodated our group of 6 adults comfortably. We stayed 5 nights and during the days managed to travel to multiple parks and historical sites, all within a 3 hr drive, and still had time to wander around Kanab shops and restaurants. Highly recommend the Sand Caves (Rte 89), the Navajo tour of Antelope Canyon AZ, and the virtual helicopter tour of the area at Wigwam shop in Kanab!

Facebook up our House
This was our third time staying at this house - and we keep coming back because of its historic charm, its location in town, and its comfortable feeling and amenities. Always a pleasure.
Wish we could have stayed longer.
What an awesome house! We were impressed with the cleanliness of the house and the ease it was to rent the property. Our grandchildren enjoyed the games and activities that were found in the cupboards. The yard was well keep and next time we rent this house, we will need to bring lawn games to take advantage of the beautiful weather! We wish we would have made our stay an entire week!
