Welcome to the Island Zen cottage, a plantation vacation home located in the quiet community of Kekaha on the sunny west side of Kauai. This quaint Kauai home rental offers three bedrooms, one indoor bath, a full kitchen and a large living room which features a bamboo queen sleeper sofa bed. There is a comfortable dining area with a view of the tropical landscape and flowering garden.  The home decor includes bamboo, rattan and other unique items that add to its Island ambiance. There is a covered carport with a detached bathroom with a shower, a refreshing amenity when you return from a day at the beach.

Just a  Block from the Beach…

The home is located a short block from the ocean and very close to some of the most beautiful white sand beaches on Kauai. There is world class surfing, fishing and hiking all nearby, with a fun surf spot within walking distance. The west side of Kauai is known as the “sunny” side of the Island with miles of beautiful white sand beaches.  The owners have included amenities like boogie boards, snorkel gear and beach-chairs. For your outdoor dining there is a Weber BBQ and an outside dining table with chairs and umbrella to enjoy evening sunsets.

Kauai is know for it’s population of roosters, so they will be heard in the early morning hours.

Loved the Hawaiian decor; so many thoughtful touches! This cottage was very clean. The bed was comfortable with fresh linens and plenty of towels. It was nice to have beach towels and chairs we could use during our stay. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking some meals. Dish TV with Netflix a bonus when relaxing. You can hear the ocean waves all night long which we loved. Kauai is know for it’s population of roosters, so they will be heard in the early morning hours. Staying here was like living “local” for the week; neighbors and townspeople very friendly. There is a nice beach less than a few blocks away. Very close to the Waimea Canyon for good hiking.

Description of home is pretty much spot on. Super clean. Enough room for 6 people it was comfy. Only one drawback was the barking dogs and roosters. Bring earplugs you should be fine. Good Value cute place

We enjoyed our stay at the Zen cottage. It’s roomy and had everything we needed. We cooked most dinners in the cottage and the kitchen is fully stocked and functional. The beds are comfortable and kings are a nice bonus. We especially liked being in a local neighborhood and appreciated the cottage’s easy access to the Waimea Canyon, sunny west side beaches, and the town of Wiamea. It took a day to acclimate to the nighttime sounds (roosters and dogs), but now back at home we miss them. The front garden is tranquil and lovely.

Staying at Kendall's place was truly enjoyable! We took advantage of having the big kitchen, and cooked a few wonderful meals! The king size beds were great. The town and neighboring towns were fun to explore and we took a day to explore the Waimea Canyon. (unbelievably spectacular) . Thank you Kendall!

Island Zen was a great find, it fit my needs perfectly and I will return when I am able. A fully stocked and spacious home, from kitchen to living room to bathroom, any needed amenity was available for guest use. From washer & dryer, to DishTV & Wi-Fi, to toilet plunger & complimentary travel shampoo, it's all there. Cute tropical island décor throughout; the place is well-kept and very clean. For food/groceries, a ten minute drive gets you to Waimea and Ishihara market. Pick up some poke for the fridge! There are also plenty of great places to eat in town; I suggest the LocoMoco from Gina's and the Kahlua Pork from L&L Barbeque. I know that some reviewers have complained of the neighborhood dogs yapping in the night, or of the roosters crowing before sunrise, and I admit that it was a bit annoying the first night, but the windows DO pivot shut, and this cuts the volume down significantly. Besides, this house is easily within walking distance of Kekaha Beach (those waves!) and only miles away from Polihale State Park and the entrance to Waimea Canyon; you simply cannot beat the location. If you are coming to Kauai to sleep in, you had better stick to the high-priced hotels over in Poipu. Finally, I want to commend Kendall on her responsiveness. She was always prompt to reply, and it is apparent that she cares very deeply about her tenants' experience without being intrusive. Well done, and thank you Kendall. Highly recommended.

If you plan to stay on the west side of Kauai, I highly recommend this moment of zen.

This cottage was a great find. It had everything we needed for our four-day stay on the west side of Kauai. It is close to Waimea Canyon, as well as Kekaha and Palihale beaches. One of our favorite things was waking up in the morning to the wonderful bird songs. Plenty of seating for outdoor dining. The 1/2 bath is located adjacent to the main cottage, along with the washer and dryer. The beds were comfortable, and the living area/dining room is a great family space. Kendall was quick to respond via text to our questions after we arrived. If you plan to stay on the west side of Kauai, I highly recommend this moment of zen.

Great location

This location is truly deserving of the "Zen" name. Great location for anyone who is looking to conquer hikes in Waimea Canyon. Kendall was super diligent with her responses and was readily available should any issues have come up-- though of course, there were none! Recommended for a relaxing and homey stay away from the hustle and bustle of tourist heavy areas.
