This non-smoking, renovated, traditional (circa 1900) water's edge cottage is only a 'stone's throw' from the sea. Wake up to the calling of the sea gulls, ospreys and eagles, watch the lobster boats as they work, sit on the front porch and sip your coffee and walk the few steps to the shore, as you wish.
You will have a panoramic south and south-westerly view of eastern Casco Bay with at least 10 islands in sight without moving your head. Directly across from the cottage is the much-publicized Malaga Island, most recently famed by the book 'Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy'. Kayaks, canoes, rafts, lightweight boats and other hand-carried watercraft can be launched from your front lawn. Larger trailered boats can be launched from neighboring launch ramps (one private, one public). There is one mooring available, upon request, for boats up to 25 feet.
Modern kitchen equipped with microwave, toaster, electric stove, coffee maker, refrigerator and necessary pots, pans, cutlery, plates, glasses and many other utensils. Large living room/dining room with a table expandable to seat eight people, a hearth & stove, couch, a cushioned corner seat overlooking the ocean, comfortable glider & ottoman, TV with DVD, (includes Basic Cable (Channels 2 through 14), High Speed Internet & WIFI, CD player/radio/phonograph and records, patio door to porch, and more. Bathroom with shower, lavatory, etc. completes the downstairs. Upstairs there are four bedrooms, three with single beds, and one with a double bed, all of which have Swedish style mattresses. Covered deck has two small tables and four chairs, plus a bench. All linens, towels & washcloths, and beach towels are provided. A short clothesline and clothes pins for bathing suits, towels, and other wet items is available.
You may be able to catch striped bass (rockfish), bluefish, flounder, mackerel and others from/immediately off 'your' frontage, depending on the tide and how the fish are 'running'. If your nautical and fishing desires are not there that day, there are many other pursuits. For those who would like a moderately priced meal, there is the Water's Edge Restaurant with a full menu including adult beverages, which is about a five-minute walk south from the cottage. For those wishing to drive one mile, there is the Sebasco Harbor Resort, which not only has an 18 hole golf course, limited kayak and outboard boat rentals, sailing and deep sea fishing and excursion trips, but also dining at their 'Pilot House' and the more casual 'The Ledges Pub'.
Also in the vicinity, within a 15-minute drive, are the beaches at Small Point (with admission fee) and Popham Beach State Park, for which a park pass is provided. A closer beach is Totman Cove, which is a shallow, protected beach owned by the town & free with the provided pass, best at high tide and has striper (rockfish) fishing opportunities, especially at night.
At Popham (Beach) are the historic Forts, Popham and Baldwin as well as a beautiful beach walk. There Spinney's Restaurant has a reasonable menu.
Once you have relaxed a bit or if the weather dictates it is not a 'beach day', there are many other drivable destinations. Among them are the Phippsburg Historical Society Museum, the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, L.L. Bean and many factory outlets in Freeport, the Peary MacMillan Arctic Museum at Bowdoin College in Brunswick and the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland. Bath & environs, also have several eateries: Kennebec Tavern, J.R. Maxwell's, Beale Street Barbeque and Grill, Mae's Cafe and The Taste of Maine, to name some.
The area has much to offer scenically, historically, culturally, and gastronomically. If you don't believe it yet, ask the owner, buy some freshly caught lobsters at the 'dock price' (wholesale) & enjoy them at the cottage!
The cottage is pet friendly with prior approval for an additional fee. A dog 'crate' is available for use if you decide to leave your pet at the cottage for a day of 'touring about'.
Smoking is not permitted in the cottage for several obvious reasons!
Parking is limited to 2 vehicles without prior approval, so the cottage is NOT suitable for large groups such as weddings, reunions, family gatherings, etc.
For extended families and friends there is a neighbouring cottage, subject to availability. Please call to check about this at the time of your booking.
